Your desktop.
A little more physical.

Close your MacBook lid. Watch your workspace smoothly bend, curl, and defocus in real time. Open it back up, and everything returns crisply into focus.

Six Distinct Physical Behaviors

Engineered for every touch.

Duo is the beloved default. Choose Ghost, Roll, Shutter, Flex, or Iris to alter the tactile feel of your display hinge.

01 / DUO Default

The Hinge Swell

The desktop softens and dissolves symmetrically around the hinge. Pixels expand gently before disappearing into the fold.

Stationary Depth

Perspective compensation anchors your desktop in 3D space behind the tilting lid, accompanied by progressive optical defocus.

03 / ROLL Flexible

Cylindrical Curl

The entire desktop curls into a tight, glossy cylindrical roll traveling downward toward the hinge with specular light wraps.

Four Sliding Panels

Four rigid aluminum-like panels slide behind one another into the hinge with sharp contact shadows and mechanical precision.

Continuous Bend

A continuous display plane bows inward under physical tension before relaxing back into an immaculate flat plane when reopened.

Aperture Blades

Eight precision camera-iris blades close gracefully around your screen in a restrained mechanical twist as the lid shuts.

Apple Silicon Architecture

Engineering at the metal.

Built exclusively in native Swift 6 and Metal 3.0. Zero runtime dependencies, zero accounts, and zero cloud services.

Privacy First

Your screen stays on your Mac.

ScreenCaptureKit captures the desktop into bounded local GPU memory buffers only. Frames are never written to disk, never analyzed, and never sent over the network. Mac Fold automatically excludes its own windows from capture.

Metal 3.0 Pipeline

Sub-2.3ms 95th percentile fragment shader execution on Apple Silicon. Up to ProMotion 120Hz refresh rates supported.

30 Hz

IOKit LID Sensor

Direct low-latency reads from MacBook HID Sensor Page 0x20, Usage 0x8A. Runs on a dedicated asynchronous queue without blocking the main UI thread.

Lid Stillness Auto-Clear

Hold the lid still at any angle and the effect smoothly clears after 1–5 seconds (2s default). Settle down and keep working at any physical angle without disruption.

Hardware Verification

Check your MacBook compatibility.

Mac Fold requires a modern Apple Silicon MacBook equipped with the integrated lid-angle sensor.

Fast Setup

Up and running in sixty seconds.

Download the disk image, allow the first launch, and experience your desktop following your lid.

1

Download & Move

Download Mac-Fold.dmg, open it, and drag Mac Fold into your Applications folder.

Or grab the portable ZIP release if you prefer manual extraction.
2

Allow First Launch

As an open-source unnotarized app, macOS Gatekeeper may show a warning. Simply visit System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

3

Grant Screen Recording

Click Enable Mac Fold. When prompted, allow Screen Recording so Metal shaders can locally render your desktop into bounded RAM.

Try Replay first — it tests all 6 effects without any permissions!
